Indra
King of the gods.
Slayer of the dragon (vrtra) and releases the waters; strong warrior; ideal man; god of the skies and thunder; receiver of Soma.
Is known to also be an arrogant figure later on because of his brutishness.
Agni
God of the fire.
Existing in three different realms: sun in the sky, born from the woods and dweller in plants, and born from the waters.
God of ritual and message (fire is the medium of communication); priest (purahita) of the gods.
Soma
Ritual plant/drink; drink of immortality; also represented as a divinity.
Gives the gods power; gives Indra power.
Drink/plant content unknown to this day.
Purusa
“Person.”
A primordial human who sacrifices himself to create everything; an androgynous primal human who separated through primordial self-sacrifice into man and woman and from whom the world was created with all its contrasts.
