Unconscious bias
An unsupported judgement or assumption in favour of or against someone or a group that is formed outside of a person’s conscious awareness, influenced by background, personal experiences, stereotypes
Stereotype
A generalised belief or assumption about an individual or group of people
Affinity bias
When you unconsciously prefer people who share qualities with you or someone that is like you
Conformity bias
The tendency people have to act similar to people around them regardless of their own personal beliefs or idiosyncrasies
Micro-aggression
Subtly verbal and nonverbal slight/insult directed towards an individual due to their group identify
Prejudice
where we go from our unconscious bias to what we think we know about certain groups of people
Discrimination
When you have the power to use prejudice to negatively impact people
