Q

What is unconscious bias?

A

Associations that are deeply ingrained and outside of our conscious awareness or control.
These are influenced by our experiences in our upbringing, education and work/living environments.
They can affect how we interact with colleagues, clients and suppliers. Positive action needs to be undertaken to ensure they do not adversely prejudice people.

Q

How could your organisation improve diversity in the workplace?

A

Definitely a diversity issue with surveyors and property professionals at the Council, very white and from similar backgrounds. Obviously an issue across the sector but something our team lacks in comparison to most other Council departments.
MCC as a whole does a good job and has policies in place, its the responsibility of departments and individuals to enact them.
