Diuretics Flashcards
0
Q
Glomerular filtration
A
99 % of filtrate reabsorbed, 1% excreted as urine
Urine output about 30-60mL/hour, less than that = oliguria, more is polyguria
K+ reabsorbed mostly in proximal tubules
Cl- and HCO3- passively reabsorbed in tubules
Aldosterone: increases Na and water reabsorption in distal tubule
1
Q
Diuretics
A
Reduce extracellular fluid volume to lower blood pressure and rid body of excess interstitial fluid
Kidneys receive 22% of CO (1.1L/min)
2
Q
Groups of diuretics and place of action
A
P otassium-sparing (collecting duct) L oop (Ascending loop) O smotic (descending loop) C arbonic anhydrase inhibitors (proximal tubule) T hiazides (Distal tubule)
