Diuretics Flashcards
what is the main location of water reabsorption in the kidney?
The loop of henle. works via a countercurrent mechanaisim driven by the Extrusion of Na that produces hypertonic conditions in the medulla.
what part of the nephron do thiazide diuretics act upon
first half of the distal covuluted tubule.
where do carbonic anhydrase inhibhibitors act upon
Proximal convuluted tubule.
What is a side effect of Sulphanamides?
they are an antibiotic that has a diuresis side effect.
what does the thiazide hydrochloro thiazide do?
blocks the Na Cl symporter.
Name an ACE inhibitor and what this means for diuretics?
Captopril. if ACE is blocked then AG1 cannot be converted into ACE2 which means alderstrone cannot be released that leads to decreased ADH/Vasopressin release. Less aquaporins integrated into the collecting duct so less retention of water.
name an osmotic diuretic and how it works?
Mannitol. works at proximal tubule, thin desending limb, distal tubule and collecting ducts.
impedes water reabsorption and indirectly impedes Na+ reabsorption.
