Dissection 8: Femoral triangle and anterior compartment of the leg Flashcards
What are the borders of the femoral triangle
Inguinal ligament superiorly
Sartorius laterally
Adductor longus medially
What forms the floor of the femoral traingel
illiopsoas laterally
pectineus medially
What is contained in the femoral triangle
the femoral nerve, artery, vein and canal (contains deep inguinal lymph nodes)
Where does the inguinal ligament run between
the ASIS and the pubic tubercle
What is the inguinal canal
the medial half of the inguinal ligament
what is contained in the inguinal canal
the spermatic cord
the round ligament of the uterus
Name the muscles of the anterior thigh
Illiopsoas
Sartorius
Quadriceps femoris = rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius
What are the attachments of sartorius
ASIS - medial surface of proximal tibia
Which muscle of the quadricepts attaches proximaly to the ASIS
rectus femoris
Where does the quadricepts insert distally
patella via quadriceps tendon
What supplies the anterior compartment of the leg
femoral nerve
What is the function of iliopsoas
felxion at the hip
what is the function of sartorius
flexion at the hip and knee
what is the function of quadriceps
extension of the knee
What are the roots of the femoral nerve?
L2-L4
What is the function of the muscles in the medial thigh
to adduct the thigh
name the adductors
gracilis
adductor brevis, longus and magnus
What are the proximal attachments of the adductors brevis, longus and magnus
pubis, ischiopubic ramus or the ischial tuberosity
what is the distal attachment of the adductors
posterior surface of the shaft of the femur along the linea asperal or the adductor tubercle of the tibia
what nerve innervate the medial compartment of the thish
obturator
what are the roots of the obturator nerve
L2-L4
which muscle is not supplied bu the obturator nerve in the thigh and what is it supplied by instead
adductor magnus (hamstring part) tibial nerve
Where do lymph vessels following the great saphenous vein drain
superficial inguinal nodes - then to external illiac and (some to deep inguinal)
Where does lymph following the small saphenous drain
popliteal lymph nodes - then to deep inguinal
where are the deep inguinal nodes
deep to the fascia lata
medial to femoral vein
where do the deep inguinal nodes drain
external illiac nodes - there fore all lymph in the lower limb ultimately drains to the external illiac nodes
What supplies most of the blood to the head of the femur
the medial and lateral circumflex arteries (branches of the femoral profunda artery)
what makes up the femoral sheath
transversalis and iliopsoas fasica from the abdmonimal wall - surround the most proximal part of the femoral artery and vein NOT nerve
What gives the sensory innercation to the thigh
anterior cutanous (L2-4) lateral cutaneous (L2-3) cutaneous branch of obturator (L2-4)
