Minimum Requirements to be listed on Release
An original release is required to be issued by a dispatcher before a flight departs: a) An originating airport, or
2) The dispatch release must contain, or have attached to it, at least the following information (14 CFR Part 121.687):
• Identification number of the aircraft
• Trip or flight number
• Departure airport, intermediate stops, destination airports, and alternate airports
• Statement of the type of operation (IFR / VFR)
• Minimum fuel supply, and
• Weather reports, forecasts or combination thereof, for the destination,
What are two ways to amend a release?
digital copy via Flight View, via ACARS, or via verbal over the phone if a paper copy. Strike through, time and dispatcher’s initials and amendment number.
When must a release be amended?
2 hour delay Aircraft swap. New MEL / CDL PIC requests an increase in fuel. Change in route or altitude that increases MINTO. TAF changes to be below minimums Change in crew members. TAF or WX changes affecting legality of flight.
When is a takeoff alternate required?
When the WX at departure airport is below landing minimums.
When is a destination alternate required?
1 hour before and after ETA, WX below 2000 ft CIG and 3 miles visibility.
What are other conditions requiring an alternate?
a) Airport is in Alaska and does not have more than one separate suitable runway authorized for the type of aircraft to be used.
b) Destination airport has no instrument approach available (refer to Weather Requirements for Release Instrument Flight Rules above).
c) Freezing precipitation in forecast (i.e., FZDZ, FZRA, +SN, GR, FZFG, or UP).
d) RCC values of less than 3.
