During legitimacy crisis->when leader disobeys laws/performance no longer satisfies
When laws unjust->need question legality
Have responsibility to obey just laws->moral responsibility to resist unjust laws
Is civil duty when state corrupt
WHAT IS CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE?
Non-violent->on grounds of conscience
Moral responsibility
The means must reflect the ends->need be moral and non-violent
IDEALIST CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE
CD based on truth and morality (what is truth-is there a universal truth? Who and what is right?)
Is CD just ideas and powers?

REALIST CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE
Non-violent political action
No reference to morality
IS VIOLENCE NECESSARY?
Sometimes->self-defense->when n-v not being listened to and there is an urgent need for change
VIOLENCE AS RESISTANCE
When law used as tool to oppress, no need to respect it->similar logic to CD
Not advocate unjustified violence-> but violence of oppressed=cathartic
Need violence get away violence
Used as self-actualization force->to restore agency of oppressed
