Disease process from Alter airway Flashcards
what is COPD?
it when there is an inflammatory mucous membrane of the bronchial tubes occurs as well as loss o the elasticity in lung parenchyma
what kind of problem can arise from COPD?
respiratory problem because the mucous is impairing gas exchange.
Is COPD treatable?
progressive disorder that is preventable and treatable.
what is the treatment of COPD?
-smoking cessation-exposure to tobacco increases mucous production
-bronchodilator, corticosteriod-open up the airway
-breathing exercise, spirometry
-oxygen therapy as ordered
thorocentesis-take out pleural fluid between the pleural lining
-avoidance of aggravating factors
what are some diagnostic?
Pulmonary function test-demonstrate changes in pulmonary health, pt may get tested if not responding to bronchodilator
ABG
CBC
sputum culture
what is asthma? s/sx
chronic inflammatory disease of airways
s/sx-coughing, wheezing, SOB, chest tightness, and sputum production
what the difference between asthma and COPD?
asthma-chronic condition that never goes away
COPD-progressive disorder that preventable and treatable
what treatment and diagnostic for asthma?
treatment is the same as COPD
diagnostic-the same as COPD the only difference is asthma has expiratory peak flow-monitor ability of an individual to exhale a specific volume of air. it order to measure the reactivity of their lungs and adjust asthma treatment
what the s/sx of COPD
hypoxemia, hypercapnia, dyspnea on exertion and at rest, oxygen desaturation with exercise, and use of acessory muscle of respiration. PFT shows decrease vital capacity, chest x-ray reveals hyperinflated chest
what the initial symptom of pulmonary embolism?
chest pain that is sudden onset then restlessness, tachycardia, cough, cyanosis
what position will help client with emphysema breath?
sitting up and leaning on an overbed table, sitting up and resting the elbows on the knees, tripod position, and standing and leaning against the wall
