Q

Describe the pathogenesis of BLAD

A

Neutrophils cannot bind tightly to endothelial cells and thus cannot perform diapedesis to reach target tissues. The animal usually dies from bacterial infections.

Q

Why might the CBC of an animal with BLAD show an extreme neutrophilia?

A

The body responds to an infection by increasing neutrophil production. However, neutrophils are unable to leave the blood stream to reach infection sites.
