group 1 atypicals: risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine
schizophrenia - second line
first-generation atypicals: haloperidol, chlorpromazine
has increased extrapyramidal symptoms
these treat positive symptoms better
schizophrenia - refractory
clozapine (group 1 atypical)
tried after 2-6 weeks (more like six weeks)
MDD - first line
SSRIs: used in mild to moderate
MDD - second line
SNRIs, bupropion, and mirtazapine
MDD - third line
TCAs and MAOIs

psychosis, schizophrenia
Indications of atypical second-gen
first-line for psychotic disorders
clozapine (atypical group 1) for refractory
Risperidone (group 1 atypicals) and Ziprasidone (group 2 atypicals) indications

aripiprazole indications
psychotic disorders
lithium indications
bipolar disorders: acute mania
valproate and carbamazepine
anticonvulsants that suppress impulsive and aggressive behavior
SSRI indications
first-line for depression and anxiety disorders
SNRI indications
may be used as first-line, esp. in those with significant fatigue or pain syndromes with depression
(like duloxetine)
TCA indications
depression insomnia diabetic neuropathic pain post-herpetic neuralgia migraine urge incontinence
