Discretion / FTL / OMA 7 Flashcards
What are the core and phased FTL tables?
Phased is transitional from CAP371 to EASA
Reverting to core gives us 2 hours discretion
Our discretion amends the core EASA FTL limits (in OMA)
What is the difference between discretion and authority?
Discretion amends the EASA FTL (core) limits
Authority modifies the FMRS crew roster rules in OMA 7
On a local night standby, when would FDP start at report?
When standby start time AND report time are in the same FDP period (e.g. 0800-1259) AND notice was 2 hours or less.
If standby is more than 2 hours, then FDP starts counting from anything over 2 hours, and the more limiting FDP window is used.
How long before FDP starts counting during a standby?
Which FDP window would you use?i
Must have been on standby for 6 hours before FDP starts reducing. Otherwise, FDP starts on report.
If standby and report time were in different FDP windows, use the more limiting one.
When SHALL a commander reduce FDP?
Unforeseen circumstances on the day, that might have detrimental effect on safety and induce fatigue
e.g. traumatic medical event on board, severe fatigue
When can we increase FDP?
On the day
If crew are fit, willing and able
Maximum 2 hours on normal FDP
Any core exceedance over an hour reportable to the authority via EDR electronic discretion report (or CDR for cabin)
Can you continue to destination if you will have gone over 2 hours discretion on arrival?
Yes, but only if it is the final sector, and the delay that put you over happened after take off and was unforeseen.
When SHALL a commander increase a rest period?
Where there could be detriment to flight safety or possible future fatigue
Must complete a report within 24h
What is Extended FDP?
How many per 7 days?
Extended duties give a buffer for any unforeseen delays on a longer route.
Discretion is still based on core EASA.
Minimum pre- and post- flight rest +2h
OR post flight rest +4h
2 per 7 days
(ONE per 7 days iaw FRMS)
What is the EASA FTL equation?
FTL core scheme + FRM roster rules* + Policies and procedures**
= EASA FTL
- appendix A
** appendix B-J
What is acclimatisation?
How long do we remain acclimatised to the initial time zone?
What are the 3 letters?
2 hour-wide time zone surrounding the local time at the point of departure
Remain acclimatised to the start time zone for 48 hours, regardless of where you have gone
Over 48 hours, see table.
B= acclimatised, D=acclimatised on next duty, X= Unknown state. See 7.3.
What is the difference between accommodation and suitable accommodation?
easyJet accommodation for split duties?
Accommodation is for a standby or split duty.
Quiet, Comfortable, Not Public, Light, Temperature, Sleep Furniture, Room for all crew, Food and Drink
Suitable accommodation is for rest
All the above, specifically a bed, ventilated, separate rooms.
easyJet accommodation (split) 45ºrecline, 20’ wide, leg+foot support
What is flight time?
First moving under own power (intending TO), coming to rest at intended parking position on arrival, all engines shut down.
What are the cumulative limits (EASA)?
DUTY
60h / 7d
110h / 14d (100 RVB)
190h / 28d
FLIGHT
100 / 28d
900 / cy
1000 / 12m (900 RVB)
How much rest does one have away from base?
10 hours or same as Duty period
8 hours opporutunity for sleep
1 hour physiological
Double any travel time over 30m
For planning- EZY 12 hours.
Can a commander reduce minimum rest?
Yes, up to 10 hours min
Only with unforeseen circumstances after report
Cmd must assess the alertness of crew
EDR to be completed by the end of the duty
How many local nights for 1 day off?
Two local nights. Plus another local night for each extra day off.
How long can a break be in a split duty? How long before suitable accommodation is needed?
3-10 hours
Suitable accommodation over 6 hours (or if in WOCL)
Split duty rules
Cannot follow a reduced rest period
FDP can be extended by 50% of rest (except any part of rest in WOCL)
60 mins for briefing and travel
(standard 15 mins travel to hotel)
Difference between duty time, FDP and flight hours?
Flight hours are block times
Duty time and FDP start at report
FDP ends at engine stop
Duty ends after debrief
When does standby count as 50% for cumulative duty hours?
Any standby period between 2200 and 0800L, otherwise counts as 100%
