How do we work out turesky score?
Sum of plaque from all surface/total number of surfaces
What does Turesky code 0 mean?
No plaque
What does Turesky Code 1 mean?
Individual flecks of plaque around the cervical margin
What does Turesky score 2 mean?
Continuous band of plaque <1mm from gingival margin
What does Turesky code 3 mean?
1mm–1/3 of tooth covered in plaque
What does Turesky code 4 mean?
1/3-2/3 covered in plaque
What does turesky code 5 mean?
Whole coronal aspect of tooth covered in plaque
What materials are required for plaque disclosing?
Vaseline Disclosing solution Cotton pledgets Dappen's pot Tweezers Mouth mirror
What colour is plaque with two tone
Newer biofilm is less than 3 days old - RED
Older biofilm more than 3 days old - BLUE
Describe the application procedure for plaque disclosing.
- Pt medical history checked and updated.
- Explanation of procedure and consent gained.
- Intra-oral check.
- Ask pt to rinse if necessary to remove food particles and heavy saliva.
- Apply lubricant to lips - vaseline
- Dry the teeth with 3-in-1 or cotton rolls (this can be omitted).
- Use a cotton wool pellet/tweezers (lockable), micro-brush or brush.
- Apply to all areas. Always protect the pt, especially clothing and extra-oral soft tissues; use mouth mirror to prevent spillage when transferring from solution to pt’s teeth.
- Examine distributions; ask pt to rinse gently.
