A
- the voting system in the UK (FPTP) is non-proportional meaning larger parties like the conservatives are over represented
- whereas smaller parties like the green party are under represented or non-proportionally represented

- representative democracy may lead to reduced participation as electorates chose to hand over responsibility to politicians
- the general public may not feel the need to vote as they will automatically receive representation

The electoral mandate of voters is flawed
- voters must either reject or accept a whole manifesto
- they are unable to clarify which parts they oppose

- some politicians use their superior judgement and knowledge to act for the people
- indulging in their own self interests as the general public may not know what their own self interests are
- this falls under the concept of ‘burkean representation’
