How is a civil case expensive?
A
- The cost of taking a case to the civil courts is often more than the amount claimed, specifically for smaller claims.
- In the High Court, it can be hundreds of thousands of pounds.

How are the civil courts time-consuming?
A
- There are many preliminary stages to go through.
- There is a long wait after the case is set down for hearing at court, usually 1 year for larger claims.
- This means some cases are not finished fo years.

How is the process of a civil case complicated?
A
- May be compulsary steps to be taken before a case is started in court.
- For some cases, the parties must use pre-action protocols and give the other party certain information.
- All this makes it complicated for an ordinary person to take a case to the civil courts without legal advice/help.

Why is there uncertainity in the civil courts?

- No guarantee of winning a case.
- The person who lost may have to pay the other party’s costs.
- Makes it difficult to know how much a case is going to cost in advance.
- Delays can also add to the uncertainty.
