What does a driver do once declaring their train disabled?
issue a Drivers Relief Authority dictated to TC
how will a driver know from where to protect their train?
informed by TC
if no comms and safe to do so they will protect from the rear
ABS train is already in the block section and rescuing from the rear to the advance
no Train Authority required
If the train is already in the block section and relieving from the advance
they need a TA
when may a TA be issued?
when the disabled train is protected
what should you bring when protecting your train?
reactive track access if required
full cab unattended secured
the DRA
train radio
red flag
ensure marker lights are red
ensure they are 500m or first fixed signal at stop
ensure they are in a POS
on ABS how will the relieving driver passed the home signal protecting the section?
it must show proceed if it can
otherwise verbal/pilot
what speed does a relieving driver travel on ABS?
if there are signals as per aspects//
no signals reduced speed cautiously until 2km then 15km/h until pilot then continue at 15
once the relieving driver meets the protecting driver what are their 5 C’s?
confer
couple
cancel the DRA
continuity tests between trains
contact TC
what will they do with the DRA and TA once they reach an attended location
hand to the signaller to cancel the TA
submit reports
notify TC of time of cancellation
when is the only time a relieving driver will not have signals?
when rescuing from the advance on double line ABS
when can the completed trains move?
once authorised
what will the signaller do to ATC home signals when a train rescue is active
sleeved at stop
what must a driver be when doing wrong line moves?
vigilant, especially around level crossings
what to do if comms fails?
make PA
full cab unattended
