What are your main assessments in disability?
Conscious level (alert, voice, pain, unresponsive)
PEARL
Posture
Blood Sugars
What else are you assessing when looking at pupils?
Dilation
Pinpoint
Sluggish/reactive
What can effect pupil reaction and size
Drugs such as opioids, atropine and eye drops
What considerations are being made in posture?
Hypotonia (low tone)
Decerebrate (extended arms and legs)
Decorticate (flexed arms, extended legs)
Seizure activity/dystonia
What is the normal blood glucose range?
4-7mmol/L
What interventions would you make for a low blood sugar?
2mls/kg of 10% glucose
Recheck and repeat dose- consider ketone testing
What interventions would you make for seizure activity?
IV lorazepam or rectal diazepam- follow local guidelines
