Use of the direct object.
When the object was defined previously.
Has comprado verduras ayer? No, no las he comprado.
Use of the indirect object.
Only with specific verbs and always in combination with the direct object.
Dar algo (OD) a alguien (OI).
¿Tu novio te ha dado el regalo? No, no ha dado lo me.
I give something to my boyfriend.
Le doy algo a mi novio.
Out of context the indirect object is always doubled!
Verbs that require the use of the indirect object.
dar decir comprar enviar preguntar prestar pedir devolver
Constructions containing Hilfsverben.
The indirect object is added in the end of the infinitive if the verb. In combination with the direct object “le” changes to “se” for easier pronunciation.
Quiero decirte algo.
Voy a verla para darle algo.
Quiere darsela?
Who teaches you spanish? You teach me.
?Quien te enseña de español? Tu me enseñas.
Do you give (present) cloths to the children? Yes, I give they them.
¿Les regales ropas a los niños? Si, se las regalo. OR Si, les regalo.
