Who was Otto von Bismarck?

A

He was the Chancellor of Germany from 1871-1890. He was a foreign policy master. His goals were a balance of power, to keep England happy and France isolated. He created the 3 Emperors league.

What is ‘Weltpolitik’?

A

German term describing a worldview, meaning “World Politics”. It’s main points are:

Colonial Expansion (a ‘place in the sun’)

Aggressive naval policy.

Avoid, or prepare for, a two-front war.

Keep France isolated, keep the Russian alliance and maintain relationship with Austria-Hungary.
