Financial Dimension
- A lack of income, savings & access to loans
- Being in debt
Economic Dimension

Lack of resources needed to lead a decent standard of living and meet basic needs
Resources include :
- Natural capital - clean water & land
- Physical capital - infrastructure (roads etc) & production tools (machinery etc)
- Human capital - being educated, skilled & wealthy
Also refers to a lack of employment & business opportunities
Material Dimension
Lack of or having low quality consumer goods (household assets) & services (television, means of transportation, clothing etc)
Social Dimension
- A lack of social capital by means of not having a support system and/or social relationships
- Also refers to experiencing a limited amount of or not participating in social activities
Environmental Dimension
- Consists of the places were the poor live, including the inside and outside of the home
- Refers to places that are vulnerable to natural disasters, crime etc
Seasonal Dimension
Refer to the realities that poor people experience repeatedly at certain times of the year, which are brought about/aggravated by the seasons and/or climate
Examples :
A. Isolation due to floods
B. Back to school shopping
Health Dimension
Refers to being in poor health and a lack of access to health care
- Includes health issues such as malnutrition, lower life expectancy, vulnerability to diseases etc
Multidimensionality & Complexity of Poverty
The multiple dimensions of poverty interact with one another and they reinforce each other
- The relationship between the poverty dimensions is cyclical in nature
