- close friend of scout and jem
- visits maycombe every summer to stay with his aunt - finches neighbour

- when mr gilmer interogates him at trial dill thought he was being bias j because tom is black
- therfore this made his very angry because of the racial injustice and very upset
- he felt powerless and couldnt help the injustice of the trial
- we can sympathise will dill
- jem is aware of these injustices but he is more logical and deals with them in a much calmer way

- he has a large imagination and normally makes things up
- this led to his escape from his home where he was unhappy and miserable
- contrasts with the finch kids - loved cared for and stable
