Chemical digestion?
Breaks down large and complex substances into simpler chemicals by saliva and gastric juice.
Mechanical Digestion?
When the food is sliced, torn and crushed by your teeth.
What are incisors?
4 pairs of teeth that bite off the small enough to chew
What are premolars?
They guide the food to back of the mouth
What are molars?
They grind the food into smaller and smaller pieces as you chew.
What are canine?
No significant purpose
Oesophagus
A long muscular tube that carries food from your mouth to stomach.
Epiglottis
A flap of skin that closes the windpipe when your swallow making sure your food goes to the stomach and not the lungs.
Sphincters
Rings of muscle along the GI Tract
Hydrochloric acid
Kills any bacteria that were swallowed with your food
Mucus
A layer of lining that prevents the stomach from digesting itself
Digestive juices
The enzyme found in it is called pepsin.
Pepsin
breaks down proteins into amino acids
Duodenum
First section of the small intestine
Villi
Finger like structures that make up the inner wall of smaller intestines
