Digestive System
The system where food is broken down (in physical and chemical ways) so that the body can get the nutrients it needs.
Esophagus
A tube that connects the mouth to the stomach.
Stomach
In between the esophagus and the small intestine
Breaks down food using acids
Small Intestine
Continues to break down food, and absorbs nutrients
The intestine that runs in between the stomach and the large intestine.
Large Intestine
Absorbs water and salts, and gets rid of waste (poop)
Chemical Digestion
When food is broken down using enzymes
A process where complex molecules like proteins, fats, and carbohydrates are broken down into small pieces.
Mechanical Digestion
When food is broken down from things like mixing, churning, pummeling, etc.
Endoscope
A camera that allows you to look at the inside of the digestive system
A camera that can be put into the body to show internal parts.
Organ
A group of tissues working together to perform the same function.
Tissue
A group of cells working together to perform the same function.
Cell
The building block of life.
Mouth
Allows food to go into the digestive system. You chew food, and saliva breaks it down.
