Digestive system Flashcards
What is protein broken down into?
Amino acids
What are carbohydrates broken down into?
Simple sugars
What is fat broken down into?
Fatty acids and 2 glycerol
Where is protease produced and where does it work?
Proteas is produced in the stomach, pancreas and small intestine. It digests protein in the stomach and small intestine.
Where is lipase produced, and where does it work?
Lipase is produced in the pancreas and small intestine. It works and digests fat on the small intestine.
Where is carbohydrase produced and where does it work?
Salivary glands, pancreas and small intestine. It digest in the mouth, stomach and small intestine.
What are the functions of proteins in the body and digestive system?
Proteins help with muscle and tissue repair. They make up most structures in the body like hormones, enzymes and antibodies.
What is metabolism?
Metabolism is the Sun of all the chemical reactions in the cell or the body.
What is the function of fat in the body?
Fat stores unused energy, can insulate the body and provides the body with short bursts of energy.
What are enzymes?
Enzymes are proteins that speed up the rate of digestion, respiration and photosynthesis. This means they are catalysts.
What do carbohydrates do?
Provide your body with glucose which converts into constant energy for the body.
Is each enzyme specific?
Yes this means that it only catalyses one reaction. It only reacts with one specific molecule.
Is the active site of an enzyme specific?
Yes only certain molecules will fit it.
What does a enzyme becoming denatured mean
It’s shape distorts meaning it won’t catalyse its reaction. Meaning it has become useless.
How would enzymes become denatrued
Different ph then they are used to. Too high of a temperature.
