Why is digestion important
Digestion is important to get the nutrients needed for energy growth and repair.
How does the mouth contribute?
The teeth and saliva in the mouth breakdown the food into smaller pieces . Enzymes in the saliva break down the down the starch.
How does the oesophagus contribute.
Once you swallow the food travels down the oesophagus, with the help of the muscles pushing on it, and ends up in the stomach.
How does the stomach contribute
The food is churned in the stomach and acids and enzyme rich juices are released to break down the food down further creating a substance called chyme.
How does the small intestine contribute?
In the small intestine , bile is mixed with the chyme to provide the correct ph for the enzymes and to emulsify the fats.Useful nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream.
