Digestive System 1 Flashcards
THE INTRODUCTION
What is Digestive System?
Digestive system is a complex set of human body system that consists of accesory organs, glands, and digestive tract which work together to transform food into nutrients for cells.
THE COMPONENTS OF DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
What are the components and organs of digestive system?
There are several organs and other components in the digestion of food.
Accessory Digestive Organs:
- Liver
- Gall Bladder
- Pancreas
Other Components:
- Mouth
- Salivary Glands
- Tounge
- Teeth
- Epiglottis
Structures of Digestive System:
- Digestive Tract
- Gastrointestinal Tract
THE FUNCTIONS OF THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
What are the functions of digestive system?
These are the summarized major functions of digestive system
(GI SYSTEM) which are located of each portionof the digestive tract.
1.) Ingestion and mastication
2.) Propulsion and mixing
3.) Digestion and secretion
4.) Absorption
THE ANATOMY OF DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
What are the anatomy includes in Oral Cavity, Pharynx, and Esophagus?
These are the following that includes in anatomy of oral cavity, pharynx, and Esophagus:
1.) The lips and cheeks are involved in mastication(mechanical grinding of food) and speech(expression to articulate sounds).
2.) The tounge is involved in speech, taste, mastication, and swallowing.
3.) There are 32 permanent teeth, including incisors, canines, premolars, and molars. Each tooth consists of a crown, neck, and a root.
4.) The roof of the oral cavity is divided into two palates such as hard and soft palates.
5.) Salivary glands produce serous and mucous secretions. There are three major pairs of large salivary glands and those are parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands.
THE ANATOMY OF DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
What are the anatomy of the stomach?
These are the following includes in anatomy of stomach:
1.) The stomach connects to the esophagus at the gastroesophageal opening to the duodenum at the pyloric opening.
2.) The wall of the stomach consists of three muscle layers which are longitudinal, circular, and oblique.
3.) Gastric contain a mucous neck cells, parietal cells, endocrine cells, and chief cells.
