Digestive Pancreas Flashcards
What do the different enzymes in the pancreatic juice do?
Pancreatic amylase digests starches. Trypsin digests proteins. Chymotrypsin digests proteins. Carboxypeptidase digests proteins. Elastase digests proteins. Pancreatic lipase is the main triglyceride digesting enzyme. Ribonuclease digests nucleic acids. Deoxyribonuclease digests nucleic acids.
What does pancreatic juice do?
Pancreatic juice is an alkaline fluid that is mostly water. It buffers acidic gastric juice in chyme and stops the action of pepsin and creates the proper pH balance for the action of digestive enzymes in the small intestine.
What is the pancreas made up of?
Small clusters of glandular epithelial cells. Acini and Langerhan’s islet cells.
What are acini cells?
Acini cells make up 99% of the clusters of glandular epithelial cells of the pancreas. They are exocrine and secrete pancreatic juice.
What are islets of Langerhan’s?
Islet of Langerhan’s cells make up,1% of the clusters of glandular epithelial cells of the pancreas and they ar endocrine. They secrete the hormones insulin, glucagons, somatostatin and pancreatic polypeptide.
