digestion and enzymes Flashcards
what are the two types of digestion?
chemical and pysical
what is chemical digestion?
it is digestion wich uses enzymes to break down food.
where are the emzymes produced?
they are produced in the mouth, stomach, small intestine and the pancrease
name all the parts of the digewstion system(use diagram)?
mouth,oesophagus,stomach,liver,gall bladder,pancrease,small intestine, large intestine,apendix,rectum,anus
what is the function of the mouth?
it uses physicel and chemical dyjestion to break down starch to maltos
what is the function of the oesophagus?
it carries food to the stomach
what is the function of the stomach?
pysicial digestion: musels in the stomach wall caouse churning
chemical digestion: emzines break down food
stomach acid kills microbes
what is the function of the small intestine?
chemical digesstion: emzimes wich are made here absorbes the food and it disolves it more at the end of the small entestine
what is the function of the liver?
it produces bile wich gets sent to the small intestine to break down fats
what is the function of the pancrease?
makes digestive enzimes to pass to the small intestine
what is the function of the large intestine?
takes out the water form undigested food
what is the function of the rectum?
produces and stores fecies
how douse the emzines change starch to glucus in the mouth?
starch breaks down with amelaze to maltose
maltose brekes down to glucus with maltose
what are the 5 stages of nutrition
food is taken into the mouth
food is digested
food is absorbed into the blood
food is taken up by the body cells from the blood
un digested food is released from the digestive system
how to test for amylase?
put the solution u want to test into a test tube and put a drop of iodine in it if it turns blue there is starch present if it is yellow/brown no starch present
