Fats are a type of lipid. They store your energy and are commonly found in butter and various oils.
What are carbs and what do they do? Where can you find them?
Carbs are a type of sugar. They give you energy and are commonly found in bread and rice.
What are proteins and what do they do? Where can you find them?
Proteins are amino acids. They give you the ability to regenerate cells and they can be found in nuts and meats.
What is an enzyme?
An enzyme is a molecular cell that speed or slows a reaction.
What does hydrolysis mean?
To add water.
What does dehydration mean?
Lack of water.
What does mechanical and chemical digestion do?
Digestion starts in the mouth, which breaks it into small pieces, and is changed molecular after.
What else does an enzyme do?
It controls the reaction.
What other name is the esophagus known as?
The Alimentary Canal
What does the enzyme amylase do?
It breaks down starches and sugars.
Where is starch broken down at?
The mouth.
What is a bolus?
A sticky snot ball.
What is peristalsis?
Contractions in the esophagus, and sqeezes the food through.
What is epiglottis?
It acts like a traffic cop. It closes off the trachea so nothing unwanted gets in.
What is cardiac sphincter?
This sphincter prevents the acidic contents of the stomach from moving upward into the esophagus.
