STOMACH

A

Physical: Churns food into chyme. (It’s a muscular bag)
Chemical: Pepsin is produced, changing protein to peptide chains. Acid helps pepsin work, it’s also produced in the stomach. Chyme gradually goes into the small intestine.

LIVER

A

Bile produced in the gall bladder, and helps break down fat.

A

Produced enzymes (Eg INSULIN) which help break down nutrients in the small intestine. (Pancreatic juices are the enzymes)

SMALL INTESTINE

A

Proteins & peptide chains changed into amino acids.
Sugars - simple sugars, eg: Glucose.
Fats - Fatty acids and glycerol.
Bile, pancreatic and intestinal juices are added to the food.
Digested food absorbed into blood.

Chemical: Salivary amylase breaks starch chains down to smaller chains of maltose.
