Digestion Flashcards
Tongue
lingual flanulum (attach tongue to buccal cavity)
sulcus terminalis
foramen caecum
circum vallate papillae (largest, least, have tb)
fungi form papillae (have taste buds)
filliform papillae (most abundant, do not have taste buds)
Foliate papillae- in rabbits
Nerves involved
7th- facial nerve (ant part of tongue)
9th- Glossopharyngeal nerve(post. part)
10th- vagus (signals from taste buds on oesophagus, pharynx, palate)
Stomach
serosa- outermost, sq epithelium and connective tissue
mascularis externa- smooth muscles, outer longitudinal and inner circular
sub mucosa- loose connective tissue, with nerves, Brunner’s gland (duodenum)
mucosa- innermost, crypt of Lieberkühn (SI), Gastric glands (stomach), villi (SI), gastric rugae (lining of stomach)
Types of nerve plexus in gut
Auerbach’s plexus/ myenteric plexus- mascularis, stim. muscles for peristalsis
Sub mucosal plexus/ Meissner’s plexus- sub mucosa, stim. digestive glands for secretions
Salivary glands
parotid- Stenson’s duct
sub maxillary/ sub mandibular - Wharton’s duct
sublingual- Rivinus duct
Tonsil
secondary lymphoid organ storing lymphocytes
Waldayer’s ring- arrangement of tonsil in ring form
Paramyxo virus- mumps (parotitis)
Stomach
cardiac
fundus
body
pylorus
Cells of gastric glands
Oxyntic/ parietal cells- produce HCl and CIF
Peptic/ chief/ zymogenic- produce inactive enzymes
goblet/ neck cells- mucus
G cells - gastric hormones in blood
Small Intestine
Duodenum- shortest, broadest
Jejunum- long coiled, vascularized
Ileum- longest, narrowest
Glands of small intestine
crypt of Lieberkühn- intestinal juice/ succus entericus (ph= 7.8)
Brunner’s gland- mucus
Cells of intestinal gland
Paneth cells- lysozyme
enzymatic cells- brush bordered enzymes
Mucus/ epithelial cells- mucus
argentaffin cells- hormones
