digestion 13/11/23 Flashcards
digestive process
mechanical digestion where large chunks of food get
broken down to smaller ones, the second part is the chemical digestion which involves the action of enzymes to break those smaller particles up to the molecular level
Hydrolases
digestive enzymes like amylase, lipase, protease
polysaccharides
starch, glycogen ->amylase
disaccharides
maltose ->maltase
sucrose -> sucrase
lactose -> lactase
monosaccharides
glucose
glucose and fructose
glucose and galactose
emulsification
breaking down of fats into small droplets in presence of bile
mechanisms for the absorption of the products of digestion
▸ Active transport.
▸ Passive diffusion.
▸ Facilitated diffusion.
▸ Co-transport (secondary active transport).
▸ Endocytosis.
proteins are hydrolysed into
amino acids
carbohydrates are hydrolysed into
simple sugars
lipids are hydrolysed into
glycerol and fatty acids
