Q

What is diffusion?

A

Diffusion is the spreading out of particles in any substance in solution or a gas , resulting in a movement from a higher concretion to a lower concentration

Q

If there is a larger surface area will the diffusion be faster or slower ? … why?

A

Faster … because there is a bigger area for diffusion to take place

Q

If i added food colouring to a water beaker can you explain how the diffusion takes place

A

The food colouring is really concentrated so it is at a higher concentration and the water at the bottom is at a lower concentration as the food colouring has not reached the bottom yet . The food colouring particles move randomly and so it is spreading out from a higher concentration to a lower conc. The food colouring has now diffused and so there is a equal concentration everywhere.
