Differentiate Flashcards
Infections of Different Parts of the Ear
Outer ear infection (otitis externa) affects the ear canal.
Middle ear infection (otitis media) affects the eardrum and the bones of the middle ear.
Inner ear infection (labyrinthitis) affects balance and hearing.
Symptoms of Various Disorders of the Eye
Symptoms of cataracts include cloudy vision
Glaucoma can cause gradual loss of peripheral vision
Macular degeneration leads to blurred or distorted central vision.
Senile, Traumatic, Toxic, Congenital Cataracts
Senile cataracts: Age-related.
Traumatic cataracts: Caused by eye injury.
Toxic cataracts: Due to drug or chemical exposure.
Congenital cataracts: Present at birth.
Simple (Closed) vs. Open Fracture
A closed fracture doesn’t break through the skin, while an open fracture does, increasing the risk of infection.
Types of Fractures
Compound (bone breaks through the skin)
Spiral (twisting force causes a spiral break)
Comminuted (bone fragments)
Greenstick (incomplete break).
Ileostomy vs. Colostomy
An ileostomy diverts waste from the small intestine, while a colostomy diverts waste from the colon.
Commercial vs. Fleet Enema
Both are types of enemas, but Fleet enemas are pre-packaged and typically contain saline or phosphate, while commercial enemas may contain other fluids for therapeutic use.
Diarrhea vs. Constipation
Diarrhea is frequent, loose stools, while constipation is infrequent, difficult bowel movements.
Stable vs. Unstable Angina
Stable angina occurs with activity and is relieved by rest, while unstable angina can occur unpredictably and is more dangerous, often indicating a heart attack is imminent.
