Different Type Of Ethics Flashcards
Virtue ethics
Virtue ethics (aka eudaimonism) describe the character of a moral agent as a driving force for ethical behaviour. It focusses on the individual. It holds that the proper goal of human life is eudaimonia (aka the good life). By contrast, note that existentialism rejects happiness as a bourgeois fantasy.
Deontology
which is focussed on rules)
Consequentialism
(which is focussed on outcomes)
Pragmatism
which is focussed on social context)
Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism is a moral principle that holds that the morally right course of action in any situation is the one that produces the greatest balance of benefits over harms for everyone affected.
Teleological
Teleological systems focus on consequences (you’ll also see this referred to as consequentialism) . The emphasis here is on the outcome of a decision or and action. Utilitarianism is an example of this.
