It means they speed up the rate of chemical reactions in the body.

The mouth.
Why do we need to digest our food?
Large molocules cannot pass through the gut wall and be absorbed by the body. We need digestion to break the food down so we can absorb the nutrients it contains.
What type of organisms are present in the gut and produce enzymes that help digest food?
Bacteria

Churning up food, digesting food ( Protein)
