what is obesity
diet related disease in which the body contains too much stored fat
what causes obesity
and example of what food
- obesity is caused by not being in energy balance
- if a person gets more energy from food than they use every day
- for example eating processed foods, ready meals and fast foods
how can obesity be prevented
- to prevent weight gain a person needs to be in energy balance
- in order to lose some fat, an obese person needs to take in less energy from food that use in a day
what is cardiovascular disease
a condition which affects the heart and blood vessels
what is cardiovascular risk factors 4
- if people eat a lot of salt in diet
- if people are overweight
- smoking
- family history
what happens to body with cardiovascular disease
the coronary arteries become blocked by fatty deposits which prevent blood flowing properly to heart muscle
how can cardiovascular disease be prevented 4
- by reducing salt intake
- by exercising regularly
- not smoking
- limiting alcohol intake
what is rickets
deficiency of vitamin D in children, which means that not enough calcium is absorbed
what causes rickets
a lack of vitamin d is caused by not having enough sunlight
what happens to body with rickets
as bones aren’t strong, the leg bones will bend under weight of the body and skeleton will become more weal over time
how can rickets be prevented 3
- by ensuring body has enough calcium
- by ensuring skin is exposed to sunlight regularly
- by ensuring diet contains sources of vitamin D
what is anaemia
health condition caused by deficiency of iron in the blood
what causes anaemia
not enough iron in the diet or absorbed by the blood

- lack of energy
- weakness
- pale inner eyelids
- tiredness
- weak nails
how can anaemia be prevented
by making sure diet contains lots of iron rich foods and vitamin c rich foods to help absorption of iron
