what are the benefits of a healthy diet?
prevents obesity, assists brain, healthy body and organs, stronger immune system
what is undernutrition?
body doesn’t get enough food
what is overnutrition?
body gets too much of a particular nutrients
what is malnutrition?
bad nutrition, describes both starvation and overeating, body gets too much or too little of a particular nutrient
energy needs for an infant?
breastfeeding provides all nutrients until 6 months old. then they are weaned onto soft food and eventually hard foods
energy needs for a young child?
growing very quickly so they need a balanced healthy diet so they grow and stay healthy
energy needs for a teenager?
grow very fast, normally very active, have higher nutritional needs
energy needs for pregnancy and lactation?
certain foods must be avoided, during lactation energy needs increase
energy needs for an adult?
continue to need a healthy, varied diet. body begins to lose muscle
energy needs for an older adult?
healthy diet with extra calcium and vitamin D to prevent decalcification
what is coeliac disease?
intolerence to gluten. damages lining of small intestine, causes immune system to attack its own tissues, can result in long term diarrhoea which can lead to malnutriton
what is iron deficiency anaemia?
lack of iron, loss of red blood cells, which means less oxygen to the organs
what is diabetes?
need healthy diet, controlled sugar intake, develops when body cannot use glucose correctly
what is cardiovascular disease?
disease of heart or blood vessels, build up of fatty material in arteries
what is obesity?
being extremely overweight, to help- eat balanced and calorie-controlled diet with regular exercise
