Plot summary of Die Walkure
Siegmund arrives exhausted at the forest dwelling of his arch enemy Hunding. He meets Sieglinde in a loveless marriage with Hunding and they fall in love unaware they are twins. Wotan charges his daughter Brunhilde to assist Siegmund in battle only to be rescinded after Fricka compels Wotan to punish the lovers for their incestuous deeds. Brunhilde defies orders but Siegmund dies anyway to Hunding and she and Sieglinde escape. Brunhilde foretells that Sieglinde with bear Sigfried as she runs into the forest to hide. Wotan finds Brunnhilde, but softens his punishment upon seing her compassion for the twins and her being the favourite daughter. She is red of divinity an put to sleep surrounded by magic fire upon a hero may cross to claim her as his bride. The hero will be Siegfried himself
