Diamond DA20 Aircraft Systems Flashcards
Basic overview of the aircraft systems
Tell me about the engine in the DA20.
(Hint: You should have learned a acronym)
C- Continental 10-240
H- Horizontally Opposed 4-Cylinder ( A.K.A a Boxer Engine that’s in most Subaru’s)
A- Air Cooled
N- Naturally Aspirated (No Turbo)
D- Direct Drive (No Transmission)
What is the ideal amount of oil you should read when checking the dipstick?
(Hint: You should be doing this every pre-flight)
4 to 6 Quarts (Do not fly with any less than 4)
What kind of oil system does the DA20 engine use?
High pressure wet sump driven by the engine mechanically
Where is the fuel tank located and how many usable gallons does it contain?
Behind the seats, we have 24 usable gallons, with a total of 24.5 gallons
How is the fuel feed to the engine?
The fuel is feed via gravity to the electric fuel which feeds the engine when the electric pump is switched off the fuel gets pulled mechanically through a bypass. They both are meter by fuel control unit
What brand/kind of prop does the DA20 use?
It has a Sensenich, two bladed, fixed pitch, wooden propeller
What kind of landing gear is on the DA20?
It has fixed tricycle type landing gear. The front wheel is castering with up to 60 degrees on caster
Describe the brakes on a DA20.
They work hydraulically you press the top of the rudder pedal to apply said brake. However it will only activate the brake you press. If the pilot brakes fail so will the co-pilots, but if the co-pilots fail the pilots will not.
What kind of flaps does the DA20 have? What are the positions they extend to?
They are electric plain flaps, that extend to 3 positions which are cruise, take-off, and landing.
(Note: It does not actually extend in the cruise position that is the first position or rest position)
Where is the pitot mast located on the DA20?
When seating in the cockpit it would be underneath the left wing
When does the stall horn sound?
5 KTS before stall which is 36 KIAS in LDG and 44 KIAS in T/O
Describe the electrical system in the DA20.
It is a 12V system that is powered via a battery and a generator that generates 40 AMPS. When the generator breaks you have about 20 minutes of battery at a 20 AMP draw.
What GPS is the DA20 equip with?
A Garmin G500 System meant for VFR use only
What do you squawk for VFR flights?
1200
What are the 3 emergency squawks?
7700 Engine Out
7600 No Radio
7500 Hijackers
