Answer 1

Primary function:
* To drench the MC with nitrogen and extinguish the fire.

Primary operation:

1. N101 is operated from the SCC from pushing IPB N101 to the open position.
2. The MC is evacuated of all non essential personnel and made airtight
3. APL reports to DCHQ and N102 is ordered open by the DCO
4. N102 is opened from a local hydel outside the MCC above the round window
5. Nitrogen pours into the MC until pressure inside reads 0.8 bar or 188 seconds has elaspsed.

Question 2

State the secondary function and operation of the nitrogen drench system.

Answer 2

Secondary function:
* To drench and extinguish fires in compartments aft of 116 bulkhead, the RC and compartments fwd of 67 and 27 bulkheads.

Secondary operation:

1. Relevant manually operated valves are opened.
2. When ordered, N344 and N346 are opened.
3. Nitrogen pours into the compartment until pressure indicates 0.8 bar.

State the function of the WSC spray.

Answer 3

To provide a fire fighting and weapon cooling water spray to the WSC.

1. Open the tankside valve on M/O tank
2. Start the priming pump
3. Start the HP ballast/ bilge ballast pump
4. Open WS810
5. Sea water at 9.3 bar flows through SWS 803 to WSC spray nozzles.

Question 5

State the infrequent operation of the WSC spray

1. Shut WS810
2. Unlock and shut SWS 803
3. Open SWS 802 and check pressure
4. Open SWS 803 and initiate

1. Ensure keel depth between 93 and 144 metres

State the primary function of the AFT AFFF

Answer 7

1. To provide an AFFF fixed firefighting facility to MMS, AFT dome and AMS 2/2 main hydraulic plant room.
2. To provide AFFF to 3 centreline hose reels aft of 116 bulkhead and one disconnected CLHR in the RSC.

To supply freshwater to the pyrotechnics flood locker

State the operation of AFT AFFF

Answer 9

1. IPB is initiated on the environmental panel in man room
2. LPA 8.6 bar is now placed on number 3 or 4 RFT
3. The pressurised water can be used for the pyro flood locker if required
4. The water squeezes the AFFF in the rubber bag in the red firefighting tank
5. The 3 way diverter valve directs neat AFFF which then mixes with the pressurised water
6. The AFFF mix is supplied to the CLHR
7. AMS 2/2 main hydraulic plant room is supplied via initiation valve
8. The 3 way diverter redirects the mixture as directed by the environmental panel
9. When the zone valve shuts the diverter valve redirects AFFF back to the CLHR
