CBC-Complete Blood Count
-Hemogram or Blood count
-Count/Percentage differentiation of the different blood types of blood cells within a sample
Common references:
-Elevated WBC suggests infection or inflammation
-Low hemoglobin indicates anemia
-High eosinophils suggest a parasitic infection or allergy
-Elevated percentage of neutrophils may suggest an acute infection
Basic Metabolic Panel-BMP
-AKA: Basic 8, Chem 7/Chem 8, electrolytes, ‘lytes
-Evaluates for simple electrolyte abnormalities
Common references:
-Glucose levels will show hypo/hyper glycemia
-Creatinine/BUN elevation indicates poor kidney function/failure
-An elevated BUN or BUN/creatinine ratio with elevated Sodium level can indicate dehydration
-Potassium level changes may require further work up or treatment to assess or prevent cardiac arrhythmias
