A diagnostic test used to measure hearing acuity
Audiometry
An electronic device that bypasses the damaged portion of the ear and directly stimulates the auditory nerve
Cochlear Implant
An instrument used to examine the external ear canal
Otoscope
aka “Perimetry”. Performed to determine losses in peripheral vision. Used to diagnose glaucoma.
Visual Field Test
Used to measure visual acuity. The results for each eye are recorded as a fraction with 20/20 being considered as normal.
First number: standard distance from the chart.
Second number: deviation from the norm in the ability to read progressively of smaller line of letters on the chart.
Snellen Chart
The unit measurement of a lens’s refractive power
Diopter
Is performed to determine the presence of cataracts
Ophthalmoscope
Is performed to diagnose the damage of the cornea of the eye which causes the corneal abrasions to appear bright green.
