Diagnostic Imaging & Interrelationships in Body Systems Flashcards
diagnostic imaging
process of producing pictures of body structures & organs
- detect abnormalities to determine extent of disease & evaluate treatments
- used when performing biopsies & procedures
x-rays
electromagnetic energy beams to make images of internal tissues, bones, and organs on film
what does an x-ray show?
shadows of bones
ultrasound
exposure to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures inside the body
what does an ultrasound show?
structure & movement of internal organs and blood flow
CT scanning
uses an x-ray scanner rotating around the patient, constructing a cross-section image “slices”
MRI
a magnetic chamber causes hydrogen atoms in the body to line up & radion waves mixes and realigns them
necessary life functions - maintain boundaries
necessary so that the organism’s inside remains distinct from its outside
NLF - movement
activities and the movement of substances through the body systems
NLF - responsiveness
ability to sense changes (stimuli) in the environment and to react accordingly
NLF - digestion
process of breaking down ingested food for bodily use
NLF - metabolism
all chemical reactions that occur within body cells
NLF - excretion
process of removing wastes from the body
NLF - reproduction
production of offspring
NLF - growth
increase in size and number of cells in the organism
