Diagnosis Procedures Flashcards
- An x-ray of the blood vessels after the injection of a contrast medium
Angiography
- Recording the electrical activity of the myocardium
- Noninvasive procedure
Electrocardiography
diagnostic and treatment proceed in which a catheter is passed into a vein or artery and then guided to the heart
Cardiac catheterization
Performed to assess cardiovascular health and function during and after stress
Stress test
- nuclear imaging test performed to evaluate how well blood flows through the coronary arteries during exercise
- if not taken up equally by all heart muscle cells, it shows a decrease in blood flow to part of the heart
Thallium Stress Test
Medication:
Medicine administered to lower blood pressure
Antihypertensive
Medication:
* Blocks the action of the enzyme that causes the blood vessels to contract
* Blood vessels are then able to dilate (enlarge) and reduce BP
ACE inhibitor (angiotensin-converting enzyme)
medication:
* reduces the workload of the heart by slowing the rate of the heartbeat
* prescribed to lower BP, relieve angina, or treat heart failure
Beta-blocker
medication:
* Slow coagulation and prevents new clots from forming
*Coumadin
*Heparin
Anticoagulant
medication:
Brand name for warfarin administered to prevent blood clots from forming
Coumadin
medication:
Another common anticoagulant works faster then Coumadin
Heparin
medication:
Vasodilator prescribed to prevent or relieve the pain of angina
Nitroglycerin
