Diagnosis Flashcards
Osgood Schlatters
- Overuse injury (use of the qudriceps mm)
- Open growth plate
- Patella tendon pulls on the tibia tuberosity
Pain in the groin with sneezing and coughing
secondary to abdominal musculature attachment to the pubis
MEDICAL screening of the lower extremity
- Fractures
- Peripheral Arterial Disease
- Deep Vein Thrombosis
- Compartment Syndrome
Intermittent claudication
a condition in which cramping pain in the leg is induced by exercise, typically caused by obstruction of the arteries.
thin female patient with amenorrhea think…
stress fractures
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome:
- Overuse or trauma
- Pain with joint loading
- Pain with knee flexion
- Complaints of popping and clicking
- Positive
Knee diagnoses:
- Fractures: patella, tibial plateau, tibia and fibula
- Avulsion fracture of the Anterior Tibial Spine
- Osteoarthritis (TKA*)
- Stiff knee (flexion contracture >10 deg or total arch is <95 deg
- Arthrofibrosis is used when both flexion and extension are limited secondary diffuse scar tissue
- Osgood Schlatter’s (open growth plates)
- Meniscal Injuries
- Discoid lateral meniscus
- ACL/PCL injuries
- MCL/LCL injuries
- Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
- ITB Friction Syndrome
- Bursitis
– Age > 55y.o – Type II diabetes – Smoking – Sedentary lifestyle – Intermittent claudication – Unilateral cool extremity – Decreased pulses – Increased capillary refill
Peripheral arterial disease
HISTORY:
- 18 year old, female, soccer player
- Insidious onset of groin pain; pain along the inguinal line that limits participation in sports
- she describes the pain as “burning”
- she states that pain increases when coughing or sneezing
- pain began 2 mo ago, has not participated in soccer secondary to increased pain
EXAM FINDINGS:
- Tenderness to palpation over the R inguinal region and pubic symphysis
- Special test: (+) resisted hip adduction, (–) scour
Osteitis pubis
- Repetitive stress or athletic trauma.
- Groin and pubic pain, pain with palpation.
- Pain with coughing/sneezing secondary to the abdominal musculature attachment to the pubic symphysis.
Osgood Schlatter’s
- Growth plate
- Repetitive injury
- Constant/overuse pulling of the patella tendon
Groin pain without limitations include:
- Tendinopathies
- Osteitis pubis
- Femoroacetabular impingement
Hip disorders without limitation can be
- Buttock pain
- Groin pain
- Snapping hip
