A

A

They are age-appropriate everyday living skills which incooporate knowledge, strategies and internal strength to adjust to different situations.

What is a maladaptive behaviour?

A

Learned behaviours that may reduce anxiety or stress but interfere with a person’s ability to function normally (i.e tantrums, self harm).

A

own abilities, cope with the normal stress of life, work productively and
contribute to their community”

Deduce between a mental health problem and a mental illness.

A

A mental health problem is when emotions and thoughts can interfere with a persons everyday functioning. A mental illness is a mental problem on steriods; these symptoms are much more persistant and actually impair functioning.

What is the psychosis mental problem type?

A

Schizophrenia. Refers to some loss with reality; can result in hallucinations and trouble with contrasting between imagination and reality.

A

What does the DSM do?

A

DSM identifies and classifies symptoms of mental disorders. It only IDENTIFIES the disorder. (refer to slide 43 of ch16 notes)

A

Same as DSM, but covers a wider range of illnesses, mental and physical.
