Q

Strength of the 4ds

A

David 2009 has shown how the 4ds can be used with dsm-iv-tr and adds 5th duration. The 4ds have a pratical application because they are useful when considering their symptons of issues become a clinical diagnosis
. The 4ds support the validity of the dsm as a diagnostic classification system in that various diagnosed are shown to focus on the specific ds showing ea h has value
. The reliability of diagnosis can be improved when clinancian communicate with each other increasing reliability

Q

Weakness of the 4ds

A

There is likely to be subjectivity in the application of the 4ds what an individual considers dysfunctional by the individual themselves it might be dysfunctional for society for example
. Questions about the lack of objectivity raisds issues about the lack of reliability if the 4ds are used by two medical professional they might not react the same conclusion about mental disorder
. Adding a 5th d means that the 4ds weren’t sufficient themselves which is a criticism
. Rosenhan 1973 as staff were unable to tell mentally disordered patients from those who are healthy
