Q

types of diabetes insipidus

A
  1. Cranial = HYPOTHALAMUS NOT MAKE ENOUGH ADH
    tx = vasopressin/desmopressin
  2. Nephrogenic = tx thiazides diuretics;

Q

SIADH (syndrome of inappropriate anti-diuretic hormone) secretion

A

~ hypONatraemia caused by inappropriate secretion of ADH

tx = fluid restrict !!!
if not enough
~ demeclocycline = blocks renal tubular effects ADH
~ Tolvaptan = vasopressin antagonist

AVOID rapid correction as osmotic demyelination of neuron risk = serious CNS effects
