What is a basal bolus?
A
Basal bolus incorporates a single injection of long lasting insulin.

With basal bolus what else do you need to add?
A
The long lasting insulin provides a baseline level of insulin, additional short action insulin is needed at meal times to account for the increase in blood sugar

Which drug is least likely to cause hypoglycaemia?
A
Metformin.

Why is metformin least likely to cause hypoglycaemia?
A
Metformin will only be effective in the presence of insulin, if blood sugars drop too low, the pancreas will stop producing insulin and the drug will cease its effect.
